A September Update

A September Update

Sep 23

Hi everyone! I hope things are going well for you. September has turned into a very emotional month for many of us. Before we talk about the sad news that has been gripping the music and arts industry lately, I just want to share a bit about what Republikha has been up to.

Early this month, I was invited to take part in the Department of Education’s 7th National Leadership Training for Student Government Officers which took place at Teacher’s Camp in Baguio City. I also have The Master’s Lighthouse Foundation to thank for inviting me to take part.

My session was about volunteerism and how students can take that spirit into their communities and spheres of influence. Speaking at my segment were Illac Diaz, famous for his earthen schools, peanut shellers and numerous global awards, and one of my favorite heroines, McCann Erickson and Museo Pambata’s Emily Abrera.

The talk was a chance for the three of us to encourage student leaders (there were over 6,500 of them from around the country!) about the importance of servant leadership, standing your ground despite peer pressure, and how to deal with adversity. The session also turned emotional as one of the sudents tearfully asked about dealing with failure. In the midst of that student’s tears, I was so encouraged that Ms. Emily and Illac talked about deeply personal and private issues such as death and school failures, to assure the students that success does come with much failure. It was a powerful time indeed.

Shoutouts and mini-announcements!

We had a lot of fun doing a radio interview on RX93.1′s Heard on Thurdsay. Thank you to DJs Raffy Reyes, Anna, Fran and Rico Robles for having us! And thank you to everyone who tuned in, commented and showed some love. Yeaaa!

Congratulations as well to Revolver Productions on their 5th Anniversary! Cris Ramos, you are awesome.

If you’re a basketball fanatic and want to help build a Community Center for scholars, join us for  Hoop For Life! This fundraiser features PBA All-stars such as Gabe Norwood, Kelly Williams and Rob Johnson, among others and is from 5:00-9:00 p.m, at Pasig Sports Complex, CARUNCHO GYM, next to the city hall. Tickets are only at P200 (Courtside), P100 and P50.

Watch out for Republikha’s own events, coming soon! I will surely keep you posted. I know many of you want to take part as well. I’d love to meet you all and have you join us. :)

Condolences:

Our hearts go out to the families of Alexis Tioseco, Nika Bohnic, Mark “Bam” Reyes, and most recently, the Eguid family who were great friends of the Saguijo crowd. While this upsurge in violence is very upsetting, let us remain steadfast and positive about our day-to-day. Let’s keep a closer watch on each other, and be quick to respond to cries for help. We do not know if it is a coincidence that these killings all have something to do with the art and music industry. In any case, let us continue to value life.
