Hello summer!

Well, almost! A few updates from us:

1. Thank you to those who came to the recent Volunteer’s Appreciation Night! Your presence and contributions are important to us, and we will always want to keep in touch with each and every person who helps out at any Republikha initiative. We cannot do any of this without you. People are what make this movement work!

Thank you!

Thank you!

2. We are currently testing the demo songs we have for Jooma Jam. Exciting stuff! And the demos are all so amazing. We cannot wait to get into the studio and record. Right now, we are testing the songs in Payatas, Quezon City and a private school in Teacher’s Village.

3. We are partnered with UP Cradle, a children’s rights organization. You’ll hear more about them soon!

Summer is almost here. What are your kids going to be busy with? All the extra time on their hands may drive them (and YOU) crazy! I would highly encourage the kids in your life to be immersed in arts and music this summer, as well as sports. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a formal class. You can take them to a concert, or have them create their own instruments at home. Here’s a quick and easy idea!

Water Chimes!

A quick way to make an “instrument” is to use 3-8 glasses (or glass bottles, as pictured above) and fill them with water at varying levels. Tap them gently with a spoon, and you instantly have something to play music on! Try to make sure that each bottle has a distinct tone different from the rest, just like a xylophone.

I said 3 glasses because “Mary Had a Little Lamb” has only 3 notes :) But let your creativity take charge and see what else you can come up with! This is just a suggestion :) If you have food coloring or poster paint, it might help if you add color to the water so your child can distinguish from different sounds visually as well (its like reading notes, if you think about it!)

Enjoy! Let me know how it goes ;)
